After winning both the state & national Keep Australia Beautiful Victoria’s Sustainability Cities Awards in 2007, Melton was once more nominated for 7 categories in 2008.
At Friday night’s Keep Australia Beautiful Sustainable Cities Awards, Lyn Holdsworth, president of Friends of Toolern Creek, won the Dame Phyllis Frost Award. This Award recognises outstanding commitment to the principles of Sustainable Communities.
Melton Shire won the Community Pride Award for the Caroline Springs Community Hub and also received a special recommendation for Mount Cottrell - Biodiversity Protection and Restoration in Keep Australia Beautiful’s Biodiversity and Conservation competition. ... more

Friends of Laguna de Bay in Philippines
Our group and our activities in support of our local environment have been a great source of inspiration for Fe Dorosan of the Laguna de Bay district in the Philippines to start a 'Friends of Laguna de Bay' group. Local news for this area of the Philippines is located at www.llda.gov.ph On April 22, Earth Day celebrations will focus on preservation efforts for water resources.

Cleanup Australia Day - Sunday 2nd March 2008
Cleanup Australia Day was a great success with 36 people joining us.
Cassie and Simone registered all the people.
We collected 24 bags of rubbish, car parts, car tyres, a chair and builders rubbish.
Allyson Watts, Melton 2nd Scouts leader, and her group did a wonderful job.
Chris, Catherine and Orion cleaned up the freeway.
After working elsewhere Mathew and his dad Trevor loaded his ute and stacked all the rubbish ready for collection.
Brad Bonnici, leader of the Australian Air League - Melton Squadron, said they really enjoyed the day
and are keen to participate in other special events we have.
We are very fortunate to have such great people in Melton who come along to our activities.
MacDonalds Melton gave cheeseburger voucher for the kids.
Everyone who participated in the event were presented with a certificate by Lyn Holdsworth President.

Australia Day Celebrations
were held at Willows Historical Park in Melton. Friends of Toolern Creek were presented
with the Certification of Recognition award by Mayor Bruce Rohan. This was awarded in
recognition of voluntary service to the Melton Shire Community. The friends group worked very hard
during the year and the recognition is well deserved.

Australia Day Civic Pride Awards 2007
Friends of Toolern Creek received a Civic Pride Award on Australia Day January 26th 2007 from Mayor Cr. Justin Mammarella,JP. The Certificate of Recognition award was presented to Lyn Holdsworth on behalf of the Friends of Toolern Creek. In recognition of voluntary service to the Melton Shire Community The Friends also received an Acknowledgement Award for their outstanding contribution to the Melton Shire Community. Lyn Holdsworth personally received a Certificate of Recognition for voluntary service to the Melton Shire. Congratulations to everyone.

National Wattle Day Tree Planting Sunday 1st September
National Tree Day 30th July - Very successful day, beautiful weather and a
wonderful group of people attended. 80 people registered and there were 1154 plants planted along
the Toolern Creek thankyou to all the people of Melton who participated.
We were successful in our application for the Adopt-a-Park Grant of $5000.00 from Melton Shire Council to pay for Stage Two of the restoration of the Toolern Creek.
We have just received a Grant of $7700 from Melbourne Water to help restore indigenous streamside vegetation, create a biodiversty corridor for native wildlife along The Toolern Creek, 1st stage of Willows removal is underway, planting will be on going.
Planet Ark Plant a Tree Day Sunday 30th July 2006 10 am 2 pm We will be planting trees and grasses, 500 plants has been given to us from Darren of Melbourne Water,Tony Herwerth Melton Shire is bringing grasses and supplying the food for the B.B.Q. , The Melton Lions Club will be cooking the B.B.Q.for us Everyone is welcome to come along and join us on our planting day there will be a free B.B.Q at 1.30 , please register for catering purposes, contact Lyn on 9747 0525 or on mobile 0412 321 848 Registration at 10.00 at Tamar Drive & Raymond St Melton South
